Entering the large cinema outlet format, multiplex major PVR Limited on Monday said it has opened the 15- screen “Superplex” and has invested about Rs. 48 crore to setup the property in Noida. This takes the total number of screens for PVR to 516 across the country.
“Noida has been a big market and you normally do not get the space that befits the Superplex model. Superplex had to be big, had to mean more than 10 screens and while we as cinema lovers always keep scouting for new spaces to build a concept such as this, there is no space in Delhi to build something like this,” said PVR Ltd, Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Gautam Dutta. Dutta adds that when they got the space at Logix Mall in Noida, they did not want it to be merely about scale and having lots of screens under one roof. “We needed something deeper and scout for new ideas within a cinema complex. Our thinking was that a person should be able to watch the same film in five different formats,” he adds.
