Mineral production in September slowed by 3.1% on the back of rains and low demand.
The index of mineral production for the mining and quarrying sector posted a reading of 115.6 during the month, the government said in a statement on Monday. There was no year-on-year growth in production in the six months to September, it said. The total value of mineral production in the country, excluding minor minerals, was Rs 16,997 crore in September, the statement said. Coal was the biggest contributor, accounting for Rs 6,076 crore, followed by petroleum (crude), which added Rs 5,302 crore. Natural gas (utilized) contributed Rs 2,068 crore, iron ore Rs 1,457 crore, lignite Rs 718 crore and limestone Rs 535 crore, the statement said.
