Mineral output index grows 1.3% in May – Feedback

The index of mineral production in the mining and quarrying sector grew 1.3 per cent in May 2016 to 129.5, compared to the same month last year,with the total value of mineral production being Rs. 18,809 crore.

For the period April-May, the growth in the index was 1.2 per cent over the same period last year, a statement from the Mines Ministry said. The index excludes atomic and minor minerals. Iron ore production in May 2016 grew 36.2 per cent over the same month last year to 166 lakh tonnes while magnesite production grew 34.2 per cent 23,000 tonnes. Copper concentrate production grew 19.7 per cent and limestone production grew 1.5 per cent, the Mines Ministry statement said.
