Mandatory norms for health products soon – Feedback

Noting that the Centre has taken a number of initiatives for the protection of consumers’ interests, Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan said on Tuesday that services and products in the health and food sectors would have to follow mandatory quality standards soon.

Precious metals like gold and silver would have to bear a hallmark for the larger interests of consumers, he added. The New Bureau of Indian Standards Act has been enacted for the purpose and the rules were being framed, said the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution while addressing the Regional Editors’ Conference organised by the Press Information Bureau. Paswan said his ministry was working on the new Consumer Protection Act which will have “more teeth”.
