Gayatri Projects consortium bags Rs. 4,744-cr freight corridor contract – Feedback

Infrastructure company Gayatri Projects secured a toehold in the fast-growing railway EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) segment after a consortium it was part of won a Rs. 4,744-crore contract to design and build the Iqbalgarh-Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). Japan’s Sojitz Corp and construction major L&T are the other companies in the consortium.

The project involves the design and construction of civil, building and track works for a double-line railway, entailing embankments/cuttings, bridges and structures, along with works relating to bridges across the Mahi and Sabarmati. The DFC is one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects and is expected to play a key role in the country’s manufacturing and industrial aspirations. It is also one of the largest EPC opportunities in the country, similar to the Golden Quadrilateral Highway project of the 2000s.
