Essar Power Ltd’s combined operational capacity is set to increase from 4,590 MW to 6,100 MW by 2020 at its various power generation plants where expansion is in progress. The company is investing nearly Rs. 30,000 crore on this expansion, KVB Reddy, Chief Executive Officer, said here.
Also, Essar Power Gujarat Ltd (EPGL), a subsidiary of the holding company EPL, is contemplating to increase its capacity from the existing 1,200 MW at the imported coal-fired Salaya thermal power plant in Devbhumi Dwarka district near Jamnagar, to 2,520 MW at an additional investment of Rs. 7,000 crore in the near future, depending upon “conducive policies and atmosphere”, said Ramesh Kumar, Managing Director, EPGL. This expansion will be based on super-critical technology. However, Kumar said that EPGL’s expansion was still at the “drawing board stage”, and gave no timeline for this expansion. EPGL caters to 9 per cent of the demand in Gujarat.
