AC, Refrigerator makers on track to phase out HFCs – Feedback

India’s leading air-conditioner and refrigerator makers said they have already started moving towards using gases that have a lower impact on climate and will be ready to completely abandon hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants within the deadline set at the Kigali meeting to cut global warming.

The switch to greener gases has started in high-end models such as inverter air-conditioners and the companies plan to bring them across the portfolio in the next two to three years. There is unlikely to be any significant price increase on account of the change because developed nations will introduce models with the greener gases much earlier, bringing down prices by 2028, when India will start phasing out the use of HFCs. India will make its first 10 per cent cut in use of HFCs in 2032.
