The CBSE will introduce artificial intelligence (AI), early childhood care education and yoga as new subjects in school curriculum from the upcoming academic session. A decision to introduce the three subjects was taken at a recent meeting of the board’s governing body.

The Netherlands-registered capital goods company CNH Industrial and its New Holland Agriculture brand launched multimedia learning to classrooms in India through its ‘New Holland Digital Classroom’ programme.

Skills and talent development company NIIT Ltd will provide strategic sourcing and vendor management services to Signify (formally Philips Lighting). NIIT has entered into a managed learning services contract with Signify in this regard.

The government announced a budget of Rs 38,572 crore for its National Education Mission which comprises the Centrally sponsored schemes for education under which it allocates funds to the states and union territories. The budget amount is an increase from last year’s Rs 32,334 crore.

The Centre earmarked Rs 93,847.64 crore for the education sector for 2019-20, an increase of over 10 per cent from last budget allocation. While Rs 37,461.01 crore has been allocated for higher education, an amount of Rs 56,386.63 crore has been earmarked for school education.

The Union Cabinet has approved the revised cost of estimates for setting up 13 new Central universities. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur will launch a six-month Artificial Intelligence (AI) course at three centres in the country. The courses, which will begin from March this year will be offered at IIT KGP’s Kolkata facility, at IIT KGP’s Kharagpur campus and at a rented premise at Bengaluru.
