The Union government would invest Rs. 10,000 crore for the proposed IT Investment Region (ITIR) in Hyderabad. The city was among the first metros that were sanctioned ITIRs in the erstwhile UPA government.
But there is not much progress in the project after the NDA government came to power. The government is reportedly planning changes to the project. Addressing a meeting on ‘Ease of doing business in Telangana’ organised by Assocham, Telangana Finance Minister Etela Rajender said the government would announce Rs. 10,000 crore for the project. He said Hyderabad had emerged as the second top hub for IT exports with Rs. 67,000 crore last year. “The IT industry would focus on creation of IT products and services that define new opportunities in the global markets,” Rajender he said.
