Public sector electronics major BEL will set up a Rs. 300-crore plant to make Advanced Night Vision products in Andhra Pradesh.
The unit will be spread over a 50-acre plot at Nimmakuru Village near Machilipatnam in Krishna district. It will be the second plant for the Bengaluru-headquartered BEL inAndhra Pradesh. BEL is making electro-optics at the existing plant. Union Minister for Urban Development, Information & Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the plant on August 29. Situated 16 km from the existing unit, the Night Vision products-making unit will be built in stages over the next four years. Night vision products will cater to the Defence and paramilitary forces. As part of its diversification, BEL is looking to expand into high-end image intensifier tubes and thermal imaging detectors for night vision products, inertial navigation systems, solar power plants etc.
