Apollo Hospitals has said it has ventured into medical rehabilitation through a joint venture with Italy’s Kos group. The joint venture, ApoKos, has commissioned its first facility — a 64-bed rehabilitation hospital in Hyderabad.
ApoKos will extensively use robots in helping patients who have suffered heart strokes, neurological disorders, brain or spine injuries or other post-operative orthopaedic problems. For people who have suffered heart attacks, therapists are usually required to help out with nervous system disorders that may arise during recovery. Robotic devices, called exoskeletons, also help patients who have trouble moving limbs recover motor functions. Apollo also announced today in a press statement that it would convert its cancer management infrastructure into separate functional divisions called Apollo Cancer Institutes.
