Andhra Pradesh is on course to adding about 619 MW of solar energy by next month, thereby taking the total installed capacity past the 1000 MW.
The State has about 1300 MW of wind and solar power generation capacity. Of this, 1150 MW is wind and about 150 MW solar power generation capacity. By this month-end, the State is poised to touch 900 MW solar power generation. This includes 619 MW of distributed solar power projects taken up by about 30 developers and 250 MW of solar power by NTPC in Anantapur district, a senior power sector official told BusinessLine. The State has initiated three major projects under the solar parks initiative, two of them of 1000 MW each taken up by NTPC in Anantapur and Kurnool districts respectively, and another 500 MW solar project of AP Genco. The long-term objective is to develop 9000 MW renewable energy capacity by 2018-19, which includes 5000 MW solar and 4000 MW of wind capacity.
