India will surpass Japan as the largest production base of ‘A’ segment, or entry-level, cars in the world by 2020, according to IHS Automotive. In 2015, India contributed 20% to global A-segment production, while Japan’s share was 30%.

By 2021, India will be producing 28% of world’s entry-level vehicles with 1.64 million units while Japan will contribute 25% with 1.44 million.
